Lamkhuong (Jackfruit)

Jackfruit is known as 'Lamkhuong' to the Hmar tribe. The word appears to be made up of two words 'Lam' (dance) and 'Khuong' (drum) and we're not sure what they actually means. If you have more information on the origin of the word, kindly post it in the comment box below.

According to oral traditions this is how Lamkhuong got its name:

Ei thlatu Pu Sura'n Kawlhai huona mi afak fuka. Inhnik a ti hle ni awm anih, lam le khuong in zawmin an in a hung thlung , ahar lienfe khawm a hung hawn bawk. a nuhmei fel tak chun ,chu thei, an pan , lampui thluonga ahung lam le khuong pui chu LAMKHUONG tin a ko an tih.  Contributed by Pu Challienkhum Songate
